Telling Stories

I’m a freelance writer based in St. Louis, Missouri. I tell stories that resonate, write copy that engages. I’ve gotten to do a great deal of that in my area of expertise, the music instrument industry, where my writing has appeared in four B2B trade magazines, and I was editorial director of one of them.

I bring passion for the power of the story to my public relations/marketing, social media, and web content work. Most recently I’ve increasingly taken over blogging and social media for small companies, and it’s work I enjoy very much. It’s key to today’s market environment, but many are too busy to do it. That’s where I step in.

Since launching my freelance services in 1999, my career has evolved. I’m the author of books and plays, which has made me a better writer in every way. I love taking on new assignments from pretty much anybody on everything.

I’ve written and produced tribute documentaries, and I annually produce an industry award show.

Why Me?

I’m as stunned as anyone that I’ve made a successful living as a freelance writer and digital marketer.  I’m proud of my work. It’s good because I have a point of view and a sense of what works. I also have a knack for listening — really listening — to people.

I ask the right questions. I make the right choices. I make every deadline. I know when and where to use humor, and not just for the sake of being a wise ass, but because in an article it makes the reader keep reading. In a marketing piece, it can make an emotional connection that allows the message to stick.

Me entertaining at a not-so-recent gig.

Beyond that, my experience as a playwright enables me to write in the voice of the subject, whether it’s a quote in an article, the most appealing and appropriate tone for your web page, or a speech at an industry awards dinner.

American journalist and New Yorker writer A. J. Liebling (1904–1963) said: “I can write better than anybody who can write faster, and I can write faster than anybody who can write better.”

That pretty much goes for me.
